Adventist Young Professionals [AYP] is a network of over 12, 000 members whose aim is to foster Christ-centered community through spiritual growth, leadership development, and impactful service. President-elect, Gerald Bedney, offered the final presentation of Young Adult LIFE Experience in Louisville Kentucky.
Exploring the Biblical story of the Good Samaritan, Bedney gave emphasis to, “Interruptions are often divine appointments,” noting that Everyday Compassion will often be inconvenient and demand a willingness to act on the promptings of GOD’s voice.
Service to others is a hallmark characteristic of AYP featured in their gatherings and mission projects. Through local chapters, virtual groups, an annual leadership convention, and member resources, AYP is building a movement of young adults who connect, grow, and serve together for God’s glory.
“Everyday compassion is where faith stops being theoretical and becomes visible,” emphasized Tim Kosaka, AYP Founder & Chairman of the Board. “It is the discipline of paying attention to the people God places directly in front of us and being willing to let love interrupt our plans. In a world shaped by urgency and self-focus, everyday compassion reminds us that the gospel is most often lived out quietly, consistently, and at personal cost.”

“My experience at YALX was incredibly enriching, offering valuable insights and fostering meaningful connections that continue to inspire my work,” lauded Kosaka. “It was wonderful to be in a space where church leaders, pastors and young professionals came to grow, worship, and fellowship together.”
Tim founded AYP in 2019 on the cusp of the COVID-19 pandemic. Serving as public relations director for Younger Generation Church and organizing social/spiritual gatherings for Arlington Young Professionals, he and his peers found a profound need for community especially during quarantine.
Utilizing technology they maintained regular weekly Bible studies not only with friends in the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex, but it began to expand to young professionals nationwide and overseas. They would keep company with each other preparing meals, building relationships, joining with each other digitally. Kosaka sensed the need for community and compassion among his professional peers and Adventist Young Professionals was born.

The NAD Office of Volunteer Ministries was among the resourcing agencies featured at YALX. They were inviting all to HeSaidGoXP a high-energy, three-day experience, March 12-14 on the campus of Southwestern Adventist University, crafted to spark passion, purpose, and a heart for service in the next generation of leaders—especially college students and young adults from across North America. Through hands-on XP Labs, compelling speakers, and interactive sessions, participants will discover how their unique gifts and passions connect with both global and local mission opportunities. But this isn’t just about volunteer recruitment—HeSaidGoXP is about cultivating a missional identity. It’s a space where stories, skills, and spiritual callings collide to shape bold, faith-driven leaders ready to impact the world with compassion and conviction.

Upcoming posts will highlight other discipleship competencies emphasized at YALX as well as follow up resources to use in your ministry and local faith context.
